trend changes in dental treatments under general anesthesia for pediatric patients over the last 10 years at tabriz dental faculty hospital

Children occasionally exhibit behavioral considerations that require advanced techniques for dental treatments, such as general anesthesia. given the lack of comprehensive studies on treatment trends under general anesthesia in iran, this study aimed to analyze changes in tendencies toward dental treatments under general anesthesia over the past decade. records of children treated under general anesthesia at tabriz dental hospital between 2013 and 2022 were reviewed. the total number of treatments, including tooth extractions, composite resin restorations, amalgam restorations, stainless steel crowns (ssc), pulpotomies, and pulpectomies, were evaluated annually. results revealed a significant rise in dental treatment rates from 2013 to 2019 (apc=2.6), followed by a non-significant decline from 2019 to 2022 (apc=-2.7). both genders exhibited similar trends with no significant differences. age-based analysis revealed varied patterns: a non-significant but considerable decrease for <3 years, a significant rise for >6 years, and a non-significant but substantial increase followed by a non-significant decrease for 3-6 years. the study also investigated trends in dental treatment rates for six treatment types, with varying patterns observed for each type. the results showed that total dental treatment rates from 2013 to 2022 had an increasing trend. treatment trends indicated an increase in pulpectomies and sscs, while amalgam and composite restorations had a decreasing trend. pulpotomy and tooth extraction showed a significant rise and then drop in jointpoint graph.
