standardization of cultivated javanese turmeric (curcuma xanthorrhiza) simplicia and extract for the development of herbal medicine production

Indonesia is home to an impressive diversity of medicinal herb products. javanese turmeric (curcuma xanthorrhiza roxb) stands out as a prominent source of raw material for traditional medicine because it has been a cornerstone in traditional remedies for a myriad of health issues. to secure top-notch and standardized raw materials, pharmacy standardization was conducted with a multifaceted process involving parameters, procedures, and measurement techniques. the objective of this study is to standardize the cultivated javanese turmeric simplicia and extract. this study carried out several parameter tests starting from the quality test which consists of loss on drying and total ash content, and then the qualitative phytochemical analysis and determination of curcumin (%purity), as well as, heavy metal contamination, and microbial contamination. standardization testing for javanese turmeric simplicia met the standards for loss on drying, heavy metal contamination, and microbial contamination. meanwhile, javanese turmeric extract met the standards for total ash content, heavy metal contamination, and microbial contamination. qualitative analysis showed that both the simplicia and extract contained flavonoids, alkaloids, phenols, and terpenoids. the curcumin content was 0.20% in the simplicia and 0.35% in the extract. cultivated javanese turmeric simplicia and extracts have the potential to be efficacious as herbal medicine.
