comparative effects of hegu point ice massage and lidocaine gel on arteriovenous fistula puncture related to pain in hemodialysis patients: a randomized control trail

The information related to hegu point massaging and pain reduction therapy is useful for long-term arteriovenous fistula puncture related to pain controlling measures. the objectives of this study were to find the effects of hegu point ice massage and lidocaine gel on arteriovenous fistula punctures related to pain. a randomized controlled study was conducted at king khalid hospital. the participants were divided into three groups. among the first group arteriovenous fistula puncture-related pain was assessed by using a visual analog pain scale without any intervention. during hemodialysis, one group received an ice massage on a hegu point in the hand without a fistula. in the hemodialysis session, another group applied lidocaine gel on the arteriovenous fistula site. the pain score was recorded using a visual analog pain scale. the mean visual analog scale score between the hegu point therapy group and the lidocaine therapy group showed no significant difference in this study. (p=0.7338). compared with the control group, there were significant differences between the hegu point therapy group and the lidocaine therapy group. (p=0.00107).
