Staphyloccocus aurus is a gram-positive cocci and one of the most significant opportunistic bacteria that can cause nosocomial infections or healthcare-associated illnesses. the purpose of this study was to explore the biofilm-producing staphyloccocus aureus isolates from various chosen hospitals as well as the propensity of these isolates to generate antibiotic resistance. in all, out of 1361 clinical samples collected from ghazi al-hariri, al-kindi, and ibn al-baladi, 110 isolates of staphyloccocus aureus were identified by morphological and biochemical methods, as well as using the vitek 2 system compact. these samples included urine, pus, sputum, abscess, wound swabs, ear swabs, tracheal aspirations, soft tissue, blood, cerebrospinal fluid, burns, surgery, a vaginal swab, a nasal swab, and fluids. the biofilm detection was conducted on all 110 samples to assess their biofilm-producing capabilities. out of these, 62 strong biofilm producers were identified and subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing using the agar disc diffusion method. the resistance rates of clindamycin n=41 (66.12%), erythromycin n=48 (77.41%), ciprofloxacin n=12 (19.35%), oxacillin n=47 (75.80%), cefoxitin n=28 (45.16), gentamycin n=18 (29.3%), nitrofurantoin n=9 (14.51%), tetracyclin n=47 (75.80%), and n=32 (51.61%) isolates were classified as multidrug-resistant (mdr). increased antibiotic resistance and the biofilm-producing strain have shown serious problems in patients infected with staphyloccocus aureus. there is a need to discover an appropriate treatment to eradicate infection with this bacteria and control infection associated with the staphylococcus aureus biofilm.
