چکیده

Stimuli-responsive polymers (srps) or smart polymers have attracted considerable interest in nanotechnology because of their capacity to undergo regulated physicochemical changes in response to external stimuli. this study offers an extensive examination of the current advancements in their design, synthesis, and applications. these polymers are classified according to their response to physical stimuli (temperature, ph, light, magnetic fields, and electric fields), chemical stimuli (redox, enzymatic, and ionic), and multi-stimuli-responsive systems. various synthesis strategies, including controlled/living polymerization, graft and block copolymerization, functionalization approaches, and green synthesis methods, have been explored to enhance structural and functional versatility. the application of these polymers in nanotechnology has revolutionized fields, such as drug delivery, biosensors, tissue engineering, self-healing materials, and smart nano-electronics. their potential in biomedical applications is particularly promising as they offer controlled drug release, real-time diagnostics, and advanced regenerative medicine solutions. however, challenges, such as long-term stability, scalability, reproducibility, and biocompatibility, should be addressed to ensure their widespread adoption. future research is directed towards developing advanced polymer architectures with enhanced sensitivity, biocompatibility, and multi-functionality. this review highlights the emerging trends and transformative potential of srps for advancing next-generation nanotechnologies.
