حمام‎های عمومی به‌مثابه «حوزۀ عمومی» در ایران عهد قاجار

حوزۀ عمومی، مکانی برای گفت‌وگو و نقد قدرت است که نخستین بار توسط یورگن هابرماس، به‌صورت تئوریک مطرح گردید. از دیدگاه وی پیشینۀ این موضوع در غرب، به سالن‌ها، قهوه‌خانه‌ها و مکان‌های عمومی برمی‌گردد. این موضوع در ایران معاصر نیز به‌مانند غرب دارای یک پیشینۀ تاریخی است. به‌گونه‌ای که این مکان‌ها و علی‌الخصوص، قهوه‌خانه‌ها، در ایران عهد قاجار، همواره به‌مثابۀ حوزه‌ای برای نقد قدرت و شکل‌گیری و تداوم جنبش مشروطه‌خواهی مطرح بوده است. در کنار قهوه‌خانه‌ها، یکی از مکان‌هایی که به‌مثابۀ یک حوزۀ عمومی در ایران این دوره (عهد قاجار) مطرح بوده و عمدتاً از سوی پژوهشگران نادیده گرفته‌شده است، حمام‌های عمومی است. این پژوهش با در نظر گرفتن موضوع فوق درصدد است تا به این پرسش پاسخ دهد، که حمام‌های عمومی چگونه به‌مثابۀ یک «حوزۀ عمومی» در ایران دورۀ قاجار نقش‌آفرینی می‌نمودند؟ یافته‌های پژوهش حاکی از این است که حمام‌های عمومی در ایران عهد قاجار، ورای تطهیر و نظافت، عملکردی به‌مثابۀ یک نهاد اجتماعی و به‌صورت یک حوزۀ عمومی بودند که بسیاری از اخبار و اطلاعات در آن ردوبدل و مورد کنکاش و نقد و گفت‌وگو قرار می‌گرفت. روش تحقیق در این پژوهش نیز، توصیفی- تحلیلی است و داده‌ها عمدتاً از مقالات و کتبی که من باب این موضوع نوشته شده اند، تهیه شده است.

the public sphere is a place for discussion and critique of power, which was first proposed theoretically by jürgen habermas. from his point of view, the background of this issue in the west goes back to salons, coffee houses and public places. this issue has a historical background in contemporary iran as well as in the west. in such a way that these places and coffeehouses in particular, in iran during the qajar era, have always been considered as an area for criticism of power and the formation and continuation of the constitutionalist movement. next to the coffeehouses, one of the places that has been mentioned as a public domain in iran during this period (qajar period) and has been mostly ignored by the researchers, is the public baths. considering the above issue, this research tries to answer this question, how did public baths play a role as a public area in qajar period iran? the findings of the research indicate that public baths in iran during the qajar era, beyond purification and cleanliness, functioned as a social institution and as a public domain where many news and information were exchanged and discussed.
