Background: covid-19, caused by sars-cov-2, is a global health crisis characterized by severe respiratory distress and hypoxia in critical cases. identifying supportive therapies to improve oxygenation in patients remains crucial. objectives: this study evaluates the effect of oxygen-rich water on improving peripheral oxygen saturation in patients with covid-19. methods: forty-four hospitalized patients with severe covid-19 at razi hospital, ahvaz, iran, were randomly assigned to an intervention group (22 patients) and a control group (22 patients). the intervention group received 300 ml of oxygen-rich water every four hours alongside standard treatment, while the control group received 300 ml of regular drinking water in similar bottles at the same intervals. blood oxygen saturation and respiratory rates were measured before and five minutes after water consumption. results: blood oxygen saturation levels significantly increased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). additionally, respiratory rates improved significantly in 66% of cases in the intervention group (p < 0.05). however, no significant difference was observed in hospitalization duration or survival rates between the two groups. conclusions: the study suggests that consuming oxygen-rich water could be recommended for covid-19 patients to help alleviate hypoxia.
