آیا گرگ توتم مردم آذربایجان است؟ (نقد و بررسی تاریخی و متن‌شناختی یک ادعا)

طی سال‌های اخیر گاه در شماری از نشریات محلی آذربایجان گرگ به‌عنوان توتم مردم آذربایجان مطرح شده است. عده‌ای نیز که خود را «هویت‌طلب» می‌نامند این گزاره را با قلم یا رفتار خود تبلیغ می‌کنند.در این مقاله ابتدا ضمن تعریف توتم و شرح ویژگی‌های آن، تاکید شده که مهم‌ترین ویژگی توتم حمایت از کسانی است که آن را نیای مشترک خود می‌دانند. سپس با بررسی گرگ در فولکلور آذربایجان و نیز بررسی بازتاب گرگ در سروده‌های شاعران ناحیۀ آذربایجان مانند قطران، نظامی، خاقانی، صائب و شهریار نشان داده‌ایم که گرگ در هر دو حوزۀ مذکور، موجودی اهریمنی است و کارکردی به‌جز ایجاد شر ندارد؛ از این رو نمی‌تواند توتم مردم آذربایجان باشد، هرچند ممکن است توتم ترکان شرقی یا مغولان باشد.

is wolf the totem of azerbaijani people? (a historical and textological study of an allegation)

in recent years, once in a while in several local azerbaijan’s publications, wolf has been claimed to be the totem of azerbaijani people. certain individuals who call themselves “hoviyyat talab” (identity-seekers), promote such a notion both in their writings and behaviors.in the present article, while presenting the definition and features of the totem, we emphasize that the most important aspect of the totem is its support for those people who regard it as their own common ancestor. then, by examining wolf in the folklore of azerbaijan and its echo in the poetry of such azerbaijani poets as qatrān, nezāmi, khāqāni, sā’eb, and shahryār, we have demonstrated that in both areas, wolf is a vicious creature that brings about nothing but evils. thus, it cannot be the totem of people of azerbaijan although it might possibly be the totem of the eastern turks or mongols.
