چکیده    Among various aspects of thinking, the study of critical thinking enjoys a long background in the related literature and given its nature, it is necessary that higher educational centers, instead focusing on course content, concentrate on the process and skills of critical thinking. contrary to the significance of thinking, the pertinent research findings indicate that students are not much competent in using skills of critical thinking. in line with this trend, many educational authorities in military fields hold that the current military trainings do not much develop decision-making ability among cadets. to delve into this issue and investigate the rend of tendency of cadets from imam ali university to critical thinking, a sample of 239 cadets were selected randomly to be investigated based on a mixture of panel descriptive and cross-sectional research method (i.e. intra-method triangulation) was exposed to california critical thinking test. the collected data were analyzed based on a one-way anova and t-test. the findings revealed the cadets mean scores as follows: freshmen 121.5, sophomores 117.25 and juniors 111.68, respectively. obviously, there is a declining trend of tendency towards critical thinking (p < 0.05, f=4.049) .furthermore, the panel study results matching those of the cross-sectional indicate similar declining trend during three time periods of an academic year (i.e. beginning of the term 123.88, end of the term 119.88 and end of the year 114.12), indicating a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05, t=2.23).
