Abstract    controlling soil-borne diseases is one of the main problems in tomato production. the present study was conducted to investigate the effect of using vermicompost enriched with bacteria and fungi on growth parameters of tomato plants infected with root-knot nematode (meloidogyne javanica) and fusarium wilt (fusarium oxysporum). vermicompost applications were considered at control, optimum, and excessive levels. biocontrol agents were mycorrhizal fungi (glomus mosseae) and two antagonist bacteria (bacillus subtilis and pseudomonas putida). these biocontrol agents were used individually, in binary combinations, and also in a ternary combination at different levels of vermicompost application. growth parameters, including shoot wet and dry weights, root wet and dry weights, and chlorophyll index, were measured at the end of the experiments. the results showed that vermicompost application at both levels, as well as biocontrol agent inoculation in all of the combined treatments, significantly (p < 0.001) improved the growth parameters of the plants infected with pathogens. the highest levels of the most investigated parameters were obtained for the combination of all three biocontrol agents at both vermicompost levels and infection with fusarium fungi, while the lowest scores of growth parameters were obtained at control conditions for vermicompost application and biocontrol agents and infection with both pathogens. overall, our findings indicated the considerable effects of the combined use of vermicompost and biocontrol agents in improving tomato plants' defense against root-knot nematode and fusarium fungi and, consequently, higher growth levels of the plants.
