الگوهای بسط شخصیت در مجموعه تلویزیونی فارگو

این مقاله با بررسی عنصر شخصیت به عنوان یکی از مهم‌ترین عناصر فیلمنامه‌نویسی برای سینما و تلویزیون به مقایسه فنون شخصیت‌پردازی بکار رفته در فیلم و مجموعه تلویزیونی اقتباسی فارگو می‌پردازد. چگونگی اقتباس از سینما برای تلویزیون بطور کلی تاکنون مورد بررسی دقیق قرار نگرفته‌ است. روش تحقیق در این مقاله بر دیدگاه ساختارشکنانه دن سیگر در گسست از قواعد ساختار سه‌پرده‌ای استوار است. به این منظور، نخست نظرهای کلاسیک درباره شخصیت‌پردازی، قراردادهای رایج و فرمولی در این زمینه مورد بررسی قرار می‌گیرند. بر اساس یافته‌های این مقاله، فنون بکار رفته به منظور بسط شخصیت‌پردازی‌ها و روابط بین شخصیت‌ها در فارگو شامل این موارد است: انتساب ویژگی‌ها و نقص‌هایی به شخصیت به منظور همراه کردن مخاطب با آنها؛ بسط روابط بین شخصیت‌های اصلی با شخصیت‌های فرعی و با یکدیگر؛ تبدیل شخصیت‌های دوبعدی به شخصیت‌های سه‌بعدی؛ تبدیل شخصیت‌های فرعی به شخصیت‌های اصلی؛ حذف یا افزودن شخصیت‌های فرعی؛ و افزودن شخصیت‌هایی کاملاً جدید. بر اساس یافته‌های این مقاله، روش «اشتقاق شخصیت‌های فرعی از شخصیت‌های اصلی یا فرعی» رایج‌ترین روش برای گسترش فیلمنامه سینمایی به مجموعه تلویزیونی است.

Patterns of Character Expansion in Television Series “Fargo”

Studying character is one of the most important elements of script writing for cinema and television and this article investigates the characterization techniques in Fargo movie and its adaptation for a television series. The process of adaptation from movies to television series has not been discussed aptly in film and television studies. Research methodology of this article is based on Ken Dansiger’s deconstructive approach in breaking the threeact screenplay rules. To this end, at first, classic theories of characterization and dominant conventions are analyzed. Then, the techniques used in Fargo series are investigated. These techniques include: adding new characteristics to the characters to make them more attractive for the audience, expansion of relations between main and side characters, expansion of flat characters into 3D ones, making side characters as main ones, adding or deleting side characters, and introducing new characters. As the findings of this article show, “making side characters as main ones” is the most prominent and useable technique in the process of character expansion for transforming a movie script into a television series one.
