زمان و هستی منهای خدا در آیین جَیْنه

چیستی زمان و هستی، همان‌طور که سایر ملل به آن توجه دارند، در آیین جَیْنه نیز محل تاکید واقع شده و یکی از محورهای مهم در متون آن آیین به ‌شمار می‌آید که اساس باورِ پیروان را تشکیل داده است. زمان با کیهان و هستی در ارتباط است و کیهان در پرتو زمان در چرخه‌ای دائم در گردونه زمان توجیه می‌شود. همان‌طور که زمان در یک چرخه و دور، مراحل و تقسیماتی دارد که آغاز و انجامی برایش متصور نیست، هستی هم در دایره زمان بدون آغاز و انجام دائم در حال دَوَرانِ مراحل خود طلوع و غروب می‌کند. افزون بر آن، اهمیت جهان‌شناسی آیین جَیْنه در توجیه بی‌خدای عالم با ماده‌ای عظیم یا مهاستّا در شش دسته، جی‌وه و اَجی‌وه، دْهَرمه و ادْهَرمه، کاله و پودگله است.
