اخلاق شفقت به روایت آگوستین

اخلاق شفقت یکی از اصناف اخلاق است که برخی عالمان اخلاق و اخلاق‌پژوهان به آن توجه داشته‌اند. این اخلاق از اصناف اخلاق حداکثری، و جامع برخی از اصناف اخلاق به شمار می‌آید، از قبیل عدالت که در جامعه مدنی محقق می‌شود، احسان که عالی‌ترین درجه‌اش آگاپه، محبت خدا به انسان، است، و عشق که از نظر آگوستین مخصوص خدا است. آگوستین از معدود عالمان اخلاق در سنت دینی مسیحیت است که هم از این نوع از اخلاق بحث کرده، و هم به اهمیتش واقف است. این جستار نشان داد که به رغم آنکه واژه «شفقت» در آثار وی ‌صراحتاً نیامده، او معنا و مفهوم «شفقت» را با بسامد چشمگیری به کار برده ‌است. آگوستین عشق و ایمان را مولفه‌های اساسی اخلاق شفقت می‌داند و معتقد است فقط از طریق آنها می‌توان به آفریده‌های خدا شفقت ورزید؛ عشق به خدا در دوستی خلق آشکار می‌شود و ایمان هم می‌تواند میل به خیر را بارور کند. با اینکه تحقق حقیقی عشق در خدا ممکن است، در نسبت با خلق در قالب اخلاق شفقت تجلی می‌یابد. ضمن اینکه می‌توان اخلاق شفقت را در آثار آگوستین در روابط چهارگانه انسان با خدا، خود، دیگران و عوالم ردیابی کرد.

Ethics of Compassion according to Augustine

The ethics of compassion is one of the branches of ethics that are discussed by some ethicists. It is one of the types of maximum morality and includes some categories, such as justice achieved in civil society, benevolence, whose highest degree known as agape is God’s love for man, and love that according to Augustine is dedicated to God. Augustine is one of the few ethicists in the Christian religious tradition, who has discussed this type of morality and is aware of its importance. This study showed that although the word compassion does not appear explicitly in his works, he uses its concept with considerable frequency. Augustine considers love and faith to be the basic components of compassion and believes that only through them can compassion be given to God’s creatures. Love for God is manifested in loving the people, and faith can create the desire for good. Although the true existence of love in God is possible, as for creatures, it is manifested in the form of the ethics of compassion. In addition, the ethics of compassion can be seen in Augustine’s works in man’s quadruple relationship with God, himself, others, and the world.
