Abstract    this research was conducted with the aim of theoretically aligning suhrawardi’s theory with the concept of light in the quran while also proposing a new framework for reconciling philosophical theories with the quran. to achieve this goal, the study employed a four-stage process. in the first step, the achievements of illuminationist wisdom were established as a foundational and essential proposition through an examination of suhrawardi’s writings. in the second step, alongside an examination of the subject’s background, the manner in which suhrawardi utilized the examples of light (nūr) in the quran was examined. the third stage involved an examination and analysis of selected philosophical propositions and their corresponding quranic verses. the final step culminated in a comparative analysis of selected propositions and the quran’s conceptual framework of light. the findings demonstrate that 1) while suhrawardi did not base his illuminationist school on the quran, the literature of this theory is indebted to the quran. hence, he made abundant intuitive, allusive, and testimonial use of quranic verses. 2) in the quran, the term “wujūd” (existence) is not attributed to god, and the quran assigns a unique role to the attribute of light among the divine attributes. therefore, god’s being the light of the heavens and the earth—that is, the entire universe—can be aligned with suhrawardi’s expression “nūr al-anwār” (light of lights).
