One of the most comprehensive tools to show the changing trend in urban ecosystems is by providing periodic state of environment report (soer) for cities in national programs, wherein it is quite essential to have atruthful and realistic view of the current state of the environment as well assignificant human impacts. developing countries like iran are faced withincoherent and deficient soer;due to lack of data, whichoriginates fromneglecting environmental issues such aspoverty, overpopulation,etc. the presentstudy makes a comparative assessment of tehran and sydney's soerin terms of sustainable urban environmentindicatorswith the purposeofrecognizingthe weaknessesandstrengths as well asfindingthe most important gapsin tehran's soer, which can be a useful resource for decision-makers. results indicate the necessity of establishingintegrated urban environmental management. on the whole, this paper recommendsprograms of environmental development and implementation assuggested strategies to reduce uncertainty and increase the reliability of soer in the study area.
