Abstract
background: the transition to professional nursing roles is usually a challenging process that adversely affects both personal well-being and professional performance. consequently, identifying factors facilitating this critical transition is imperative. this study aimed to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and perception of novice nurses' role transition to nurse practitioners. methods: this was a cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study, and 200 novice nurses were selected through quota sampling from hospitals of kerman university of medical sciences. the data collection tools were demographic information sheet, emotional quotient inventory, and nurse practitioner role transition scale. the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, and frequency) and inferential statistics (anova, independent t-test, and pearson correlation) using spss software version 25.results: the results of the pearson test demonstrated a significant relationship between novice nurses' perception of their role transition to clinical nurses and emotional intelligence (r=0.2, p=0.004). furthermore, age and awareness of emotional intelligence among novice nurses were associated with their perception of role transition to nurse practitioners and their emotional intelligence (p<0.05).conclusion: the direct relationship between novice nurses' perception of their role transition to nurse practitioners and emotional intelligence indicates that both constructs can significantly facilitate role transition. consequently, healthcare policymakers and administrators should develop targeted interventions to enhance these competencies, given their impact on transition process.
