The fishing medallions in the northern and southern aisles mosaic floor of the church Beit Loya,Israel: State of salvation

Horvat beit loya complex comprises a monastery and a church that were excavated from 1983 till 1986 by joseph patrich and yoram tsafrir on behalf of the institute of archaeology of the hebrew university in jerusalem. since the excavations of this complex and the excavation reports published since no further studies on the thematic of the mosaic floors was carried out yet. the purpose of the present paper is to discuss in details only both large rounded medallions (1.47 m in diameter) depicted in the middle of each aisle and decorated with fishing scenes that are related to the symbolic visual representation of the gospels.
