Clinical,histopathological and immunological profile of hodgkin lymphoma at the children hospital & the institute of child health multan

Objective: to describe the clinical presentation histopathological types and immunological profile of hodgkin lymphoma at the children hospital & the institute of child health multan. study design: descriptive study place & duration of the study: pediatric oncology department. the children hospital & the institute of child health multan. from january,2006 to november 2010. patients & methods: all the newly diagnosed children with hodgkin lymphoma ≤ 15 year age were included in the study. diagnosis was based on history,local examination of the lymph nodes,lymph node biopsy for histopathology & immunohistochemical staining. chest x-ray,ct scan of the abdomen,bone scan and bone marrow biopsy were done for staging. results: among 32 children with hodgkin lymphoma,29 (91%) were males with m: f =9.7: 1. age of presentation was 3.5-15 years with mean age of 8.6 years. cervical lymphadenopathy was present in 27 (84%) & mediastinal lymphadenopathy in 4(12%) patients. stage i,ii,iii & iv was found in 9(28%),3(9%),18(56%) & 2(6%) patients respectively. mixed cellularity (mc) was the most common histopathological type,found in 25 (78%) patients,followed by nodular sclerosis (ns) in 6(19%) & lymphocyte predominant (lp) in 1(3%). on immunohistochemical staining,cd 30 was positive in all patients. conclusion: pediatric hodgkin lymphoma is more common in males and presents at a younger age. cervical lymphadenopthy is the most common clinical presentation and mixed cellularity,the most common histopathological type with cd 30 positivity in all patients.
