Diphtheritic polyneuropathy

Polyneuropathy in childhood can be of varied etiology,the commonest being guillain-barré syndrome (gbs). however,diphtheritic neuropathy should be considered in differential diagnosis because in our country,diphtheria continues to occur and the clinical signs are similar to those seen in the guillain-barré syndrome. diphtheritic polyneuropathy is a well-recognized and dangerous complication of diphtheria,especially its severe forms with bulbar and respiratory tract involvement. we present a 7-year-old boy clinically diagnosed to be diphtheritic polyneuropathy and who required icu management.
