   Pattern of neuronal migrational disorders in children

چکیده    Objective: to determine the pattern different neuronal migrational disorders (nmds) and their association of other neurological conditions. patients and methods: this is a retrospective analysis of the patients admitted at children's hospital taif,from july 2009 to july 2012 with developmental delay and epilepsy. mri was used for the diagnosis of a neuronal migration disorder. results: there were 33 cases of nmds. corpus callosum agenesis and lissencephaly/pachygyria formed the major group. there were 16 cases of corpus callosum agenesis,and 9 cases of lissencephaly/pachygyria. other disorders were 2 cases of schizencephaly,2 cases of holoprosencephaly,2 cases of hydranencephaly,and one case of each heterotrpias and hemimegalencephaly. developmental delay was most common clinical presentation noted in 29 (87.8%) cases. eighteen out of 33 had epilepsy. partial/partial complex seizures were the most common in 7 out of 18 (38.8%). generalized seizures were seen in 3 out of 18 (16.6%). nmd with dysmorphic features were present in 11 out of 33 (33.3%). the seizures were controlled in only 3 out of 18 (16.6%). conclusions: the nmds constitute a significant number of child neurology patients with psychomotor delay and intractable epilepsy.
