چکیده    Necrotising enterocolitis (nec) is the most common gastrointestinal emergency in preterm neonates and a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the developed world. aga khan university hospital in karachi has reported an incidence of 5% in infants weighing less than 2000 grams at birth. thus, nec does not seem to be uncommon in pakistani preterm infants. in this article we reviewed the literature and sought evidence of best management and prevention strategies for nec. although in the current literature we could not find any consensus we have attempted to use the best evidence available to formulate a guideline for management and prevention of nec that would be applicable to a resource limited country such as pakistan.
