چکیده    Background: posterior urethral valves (puvs) should always be considered in boys presenting with voiding dysfunction as are the most common congenital cause of renal failure in children. objective: to determine the outcome of postoperative cases of puvs regarding renal function, resolution of vesicoureteric reflux (vur) and presence of renal scarring. materials and subjects: 100 post-operative boys with puvs were selected at the children’s hospital & institute of child health (ch&ich) lahore pakistan between january 2007 and december 2011. results: out of 100 patients 44 underwent fulguration who showed significant co-relation with resolution of vur. renal scarring was seen in 25% boys with renal failure developing in 6% children. the statistical analyses were conducted using spss version 17.0 for windows with chisquare test conducted for the p value (<0.05,considered statistically significant). conclusion: the restoration of urethral patency was achieved in majority of cases with resolution of vur in more than 50% subjects. less than one-fourth of the study population was found to develop scarring and renal impairment at the end of the trial. © 2007 pakistan pediatric journal. all rights reserved.
