Inadvertent overdose of BCG vaccine in already immunized infant

There are no consensus guidelines for management of inadvertent overdose of bcg vaccine. occasional case reports have mentioned use of anti tuberculosis drugs for variable duration with or without systemic steroids and local surgical intervention. we report a 9 months old boy who had 0.5 ml of bcg vaccine (10 times the recommended dose) by mistake,instead of measles vaccine. child had fever and swelling (2.5 x 2.8 cm) at site of injection. he was managed with rifampicin and isoniazid for 2 months without systemic steroids or local surgical intervention. child had favorable response to treatment with fever settling in one week and complete regression of local swelling with a flat non-disfiguring scar. © 2015,pakistan pediatric journal. all rights reserved.
