Efficacy of dexamethasone - Ephedrine combination in prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Aim: to evaluate efficacy of dexamethasone and ephedrine combination in prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (ponv) in laparoscopic cholecystectomy.study design: descriptive case series.study setting: department of anesthesia & icu,jinnah hospital lahore.duration of study: ten months from january 2010 to october 2010.sampling: non probability purposive sampling.methodology: one hundred and eighty adult patients of asa physical status i undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy were enrolled in this study. drugs were given i/v after induction of g/a with ett. the effects of drugs were assessed.results: mean age and weight of patients was 40.03±11.07and 69.59±11.68 respectively. the incidence of nausea & vomiting was significantly less i.e.,8.3% and 6.7% respectively.conclusion: combination of dexamethasone and ephedrine is effective in prevention of ponv in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. © 2014 pakistan journal of medical and health sciences. all rights reserved.
