Descriptive analysis of pleomorphic adenoma of salivary glands at pathology department of King Edward Medical University Lahore

Aim: to see the distribution of pleomorphic adenoma in both major and minor salivary glands. methods: this was a descriptive cross sectional study. the study was done at pathology department of king edward medical university lahore. one hundred and fifty two cases were enrolled in this study. their demographic details like site,age and sex were recorded in proforma. spss version 20 was used for analysis. the results were tabulated. results: out of 237,one hundred and fifty two cases of pa were diagnosed. pas constitute 64.1% of the total and 94.4% of benign sgt. average age was 34.59�14.75sd. male to female ratio of pa was 1:1.3. out of these,107(70.4%) and 45(29.6%) cases,were seen in major and minor salivary glands respectively. majority of these tumors were located in parotid gland,78(51.3%). second commonest place was submandibular gland comprising 29 cases (19.1%). among the minor salivary glands,hard palate carried the majority 20(13.2%) of cases. lip (4.6%),cheek (3.9%) and soft palate (3.3%) were the other prominent locations. conclusion: pleomorphic adenoma is the commonest tumor of salivary glands. majority of these were located in parotid followed by submandibular gland. significant numbers of pa were also seen in minor salivary glands especially hard palate,lip,cheek and soft palate. � 2016,lahore medical and dental college. all rights reserved.
