   Frequency of malignancy in cervical lymphadenopathy

چکیده    Objectives: to determine the frequency of malignancy in cervical lymphadenopathy. material and methods: this descriptive study was carried out at departments of ent khyber teaching hospital,peshawar and dhq hospital,haripur over a period of 2 years from march,2006 to february,2008. a total of 97 cases were included. fine needle aspiration cytology (fnac) and lymph node biopsy were done in patients who presented with cervical lymphadenopathy. results: out of 97 patients,thirty eight patients (39.4%) showed malignancy. nineteen (50%) had metastatic carcinoma,7 (18.4%) hodgkin's disease,7 (18.4%) diffuse large b-cell lymphoma and 5 (18.2%) had non-hodgkin lymphoma. conclusion: this study concludes that metastatic carcinoma is one of the common cause of malignant cervical lymphadenopathy followed by lymphoma.
