Level of knowledge,attitude and practice of contraception among women of reproductive age group

Objective: to determine the level of knowledge,attitude and practice of contraception among women of reproductive age group. material and methods: the study was conducted in the department of gynaecology/obstetrics,naseer teaching hospital,peshawar from july 2008 to june 2009. it was descriptive,cross sectional study,which included 500 women in reproductive age group (20-45 years) visiting the gynaecology opd. relevant information was recorded on a pre-designed questionnaire for knowledge,attitude and practice,prepared in accordance to the objectives of the study. results: mean age of the respondents was 29 ± 9.8 years. through the application of a structured questionnaire good knowledge about contraception was observed in 37.6%,average in 47.2% and bad in 15.2% of the respondents. positive attitude was recorded in 65% while 67% reported positive practice for any type of contraceptive method. most of the women having good knowledge,positive attitude and positive practice were in the age group > 25 years. conclusion: the level of knowledge and practice of contraception was satisfactory in our study. in addition to this majority of the respondents had positive attitude towards contraception.
