گاو عنبری؛ گاو یا ماهی؟!

موجودات اساطیری و افسانه‌ای همواره در متون ادب فارسی بازتابی گسترده داشته است. گاو عنبری یکی از این موجودات افسانه‌ای است که در ادب فارسی از آن سخن به میان آمده است. نکته‌ای که دربارۀ این جانور افسانه‌ای و داستان مربوط به آن قابل تامل است، توصیفات مختلف و گاه متضادی است که در بیشتر منابع، اعم از فرهنگ‌های لغت و شروح شارحان، آشکارا به چشم می‌خورد؛ درواقع در هیچ یک از این منابع نمی‌توان به توصیف درست و روشنی از این موجود ناشناخته دست یافت. در بیشتر لغت‌نامه‌ها و فرهنگ‌نامه‌های جانوران و فرهنگ‌های مربوط به لغات و ترکیبات دیوان شاعران، به‌اشتباه این گاو دریایی را نوعی ماهی، به‌نام کاشالو یا کاشالوت، دانسته‌اند و به‌تبع آن شارحان متعددی نیز در شروح خود در بیان ماهیت اصلی این موجود عجیب‌الخلقه به راه خطا رفته‌اند. بر این اساس، نگارندگان در این پژوهش برآنند تا با گردآوری مستندات از منابع گوناگون و با ارائۀ شواهدی از شعر شاعران مختلف و بحث و بررسی هر یک از آن‌ها، نقاط مبهم مربوط به داستان عامیانۀ این جانور افسانه‌ای را روشن سازند و با استناد به نکته‌های نویافته، توصیف منسجم و معینی از ماهیت اصلی این گاو عنبرزا به‌دست دهند.

Amber Cow; Cow or Fish?

Mythical and legendary creatures such as demons, giants, fairies, etc. have always been widely reflected in Persian works, especially ancient texts. The amber cow is one of these mythical beings that has been mentioned in Persian literature; but the important discussion about this creature is the different and sometimes contradictory descriptions that are clearly seen in most sources, including dictionaries and description of commentators. In fact, none of these sources can provide a clear and accurate description of this unknown creature. In most dictionaries, encyclopedias of animals, and words and compositions dictionaries of the poetschr('39') works, this sea cow by mistake has been considered as a kind of fish, called (in French) cachalot or Cachalo, and consequently, several commentators have erred in their descriptions of this strange creature. Accordingly, in this research, the authors try to clarify the ambiguities related to the folk tale of this legendary animal by collecting documents from various sources, presenting evidence from the poetry of different poets, discussing each of them, and providing a coherent and definite description of the nature of this mythical animal based on newly discovered points.
