Abstract    badāʾ is a religious concept rooted in monotheistic religions and has attained a particular prominence within shiʿi theology. among its interpretations is the becoming apparent of a matter from god almighty contrary to the servants' expectations, or the emergence and appearance of something after having no prior external existence, from the perspective of created beings. given the literal meaning of badāʾ, its interpretation as a change of opinion or the emergence of an opinion previously hidden, which would imply ignorance, is incorrect with regards to god. misinterpretations of badāʾ have led to theological challenges and accusations against imāmī shiʿi beliefs. in response, theologians have proposed various articulations to clarify the concept. shaykh ṣadūq considers the origin of badāʾ to lie in god's agency and knowledge, comparing it to naskh (abrogation) and changes in both ontological and legislative matters. through interpreting badāʾ as ibdāʾ (origination), he seeks a rational and scriptural foundation for the concept. this paper, using a descriptive, analytical, and critical approach, aims to explain and critique shaykh ṣadūq's articulation of badāʾ. the study concludes that the reality of badāʾ is the emergence of something from almighty god, from the perpective of created beings, after it had no prior external existence. this interpretation not only clarifies the preferred theological position but also effectively addresses baseless accusations directed at shiʿi doctrine.
