Abstract
how are miracles brought about? is the principle of causality violated? are miracles directly carried out by god or other supernatural agents? addressing these questions not only resolves certain theological problems but also has influence on discussions such as the relationship between science and religion, and between reason and religion. this paper describes and analyzes the foundations of transcendent philosophy to elucidate the reality of miracle. from the perspective of transcendent philosophy, a miracle neither violates the principle of causality nor disregards natural causes. every natural phenomenon requires real causes — material, formal, efficient, and final. the preparatory cause also provides the matter with the necessary potentiality. in extraordinary events, all these causes are likewise necessary and, in this respect, they are no different than ordinary events. the distinction lies in the fact that, first, in extraordinary events, the soul plays a role as an efficient or preparatory agent; and second, the preparatory conditions involved are unconventional and unfamiliar. what differentiates a miracle from other extraordinary events is that the causes of a miracle are invincible and no one can identify them or replicate them in an act of challenge.
