Objective: it is aimed to investigate before and after surgery effects of informing the family and the children about outpatient surgery. method: the children between the ages of 3-12 who were undergone effectively outpatient surgeries at our hospital are included in this case study with their parents. (children are categorized i-ii by american society of anesthesiologists). the parents are given a questionnaire before the surgery regarding whether the information about the operation and postoperative period is satisfactory and how they informed their children about this period. during the study the negative behavior differences of the children are evaluated on phone by using standard forms modified yale preoperative anxiety scale,scale of separation,induction compliance checklist,state trait anxiety inventory on the 2nd and 14th day of post-operative period. results: we have observed that 99% of the children who were undergone surgery at our hospital and their parents are satisfied with the information given to them. still,30% of the child patients were stressed at preoperative period. the children with high anxiety scores were observed to have hard times at leaving the parents and entering the operation and during mask induction. the preoperative stress is observed to increase with the families having lower income. conclusion: 99% feedback is achieved from the parents regarding the information given by hospital staff. the results shows us that the anxiety is subject to number of variables. the belief that the children with high anxiety scores would be more anxious at the postoperative period is not confirmed by this study.
