Anesthetic approach to a patient with spinal muscular atrophy [Spinal musküler atrofi tanili hastada anestezi yaklaşimi]

Spinal muscular atrophy (sma) is an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disorder characterized by the degeneration of the motor neurons located in the anterior horn of the spinal cord. the disorder results in lower motor neuron lesion. intercostal and accessory muscles can be affected in the later stages of the disease. the diagnosis is based on the clinical findings,emg,and muscle biopsy. the aim of this case report is to examine the anesthetic management of a patient with sma undergoing thyroidectomy operation and to review the current literature.
