   The variable distribution of urgent operations

چکیده    Objective: daily peifomance of the health professionals together along with patient care is an important issue in medical field. the primary goal of the present study is to elucidate the variation of the urgent operations in a full-time daily work. method: after approval,all urgent operations in one year period of time were retrospectively included in this study. age,operation date,starting time of operation,and type of anesthesia were extracted from the database. analyses were completed by using the statistical package for social sciences (spss inc.,chicago,il) version 20.0 program. the statistical significance for all analyses was set atp < 0.05. results: a total of 1260 urgent operations were detected in the study period. there were 558 (44.2%) cases during the day shift,and 702 (55.8%) at night. a total of 120 (9.5%) patients received spinal anesthesia and 526 patients (41.7%) received general anesthesia in the morning shift,while spinal anesthesia was performed in 135 cases (10.7%) and general anesthesia in 479 (38%) in the night shift. conclusion: the present study suggested that physicians may show a tendency to defer semi-urgent cases to the fresh day staff personnel associated with the evident decrease in work performance.
