Anesthesia management for scoliosis surgery under spinal cord monitorization: Retrospective analysis of 31 patients [Spinal Kord Monitörizasyonu Yapilan Skolyoz Cerrahisinde Anestezi Yönetimi: 31 Hastanin Retrospektif Analizi]

Objective: scoliosis surgery involves several significant problems in terms of anesthetic management. prone position,hypothermia,hemorrhage,intraoperative monitoring of neurological function and severe fluid loss is extremely important. the aim of this study was to present our experience in 31 patients who underwent scoliosis surgery under spinal cord monitorisation and to discuss the current literature on the perioperative management. method: thirty-onepatients with the asa risk classification i-iii between the ages of 5-20 were evaluated retrospectively. they had scoliosis surgery under spinal cord monitorisation between the years 2013-2016 in our hospital. results: idiopathic scoliosis was the most common type of scoliosis,with the rate of 51.6 %. seventy-one % of patients were female children. eight of the patients were marfan syndrome,3 of them had cord pathologies and 6 of the patients had different cardiac pathologies. mean operation time was 298 minutes,hemorrhage was 582 ml,transfused erythrocyte suspension was 420 ml,infused crystalloid solution was 1606 ml and colloid solution was 487 ml. all 31 patients were monitorised with motor evoked potentials,8 patients were monitorised with additional somatosensory evoked potentials intraoperatively. motor evoked potentials responses were depressed in two patients and wake up test was performed on these patients. conclusion: scoliosis surgery is a dynamic process that requires intense attention. the anesthesiologists should know of the specific issues related to surgery and plan the management accordingly to avoid possible complications.
