Retrospective evaluation of vertebroplasty and percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty procedures performed under local anesthesia and sedoanalgesia [Lokal anestezi ve intravenöz sedoanaljezi altinda perkütan vertebroplasti ve balon kifoplasti uygulanan olgularin retrospektif olarak deǧerlendirilmesi]

Objective: the aim of this study is to investigate the preoperative characteristics,anesthetic management and complications of the patients who underwent percutaneous vertebroplasty and percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty under local anesthesia and sedoanalgesia. method: following ethics committee approval characteristics,pain scores,hemodynamic status,anesthetic drug requirement and complications of the patients were retrospectively evaluated. results: percutaneous vertebroplasty and percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty procedures were performed in 48 patients. the mean age was 77.45 ± 921 years and 8125 % of patients had concomitant diseases. in all cases,1% lidocaine for local anesthesia and midazolam-fentanyl-propofol-ketamine based sedoanalgesia were administered. mean induction time,discharge time and procedure time were 2.85 ± 1.09 minutes,47.02 ± 14.15 minutes and 21.79 ± 10.08 hours respectively. the mean vas pain scores were 8.00 ± 1.14 and 1.02 ± 0.75 (p < 0.0001) before intevention and during discharge respectively. during the procedure,disruptive movement developed in 3 patients (6.25 %) and respiratory depression/desaturation which required jaw thrust maneuver were developed in 2 (4.6 %) patients. conclusion: although these are minimally invasive interventions,being familiar with patient characteristics and being prepared for potential complications of percutaneous vertebroplastylpercutaneous balloon kyphoplasty is essential for patient safety. local anesthesia combined with ketamine-propofol-midazolam-fentanyl-based sedation is effective and could be used as a safe alternative for these cases.
