Congenital cardiac surgery and gastrointestinal system effects [Konjenital kalp cerrahisi ve gastrointestinal sistem etkileri]

Gastrointestinal complications are among the most important factors increasing morbidity,mortality and hospitalization times following cardiac surgery. splanchnic hypoperfusion secondary to low cardiac output is the main mechanism responsible for these complications. a wide spectrum of gastrointestinal problems including feeding difficulties,paralytic ileus,necrotizing enterocolitis and intestinal perforation can be seen. the aim of this review is to discuss the pathophysiology,risk factors and the type of gastrointestinal complications that can be seen in the perioperative period of congenital cardiac surgery.
