The Relationship Between Structural Organicity and Organizational Absorptive Capacity: An Exploratory Study on Sme’S

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between organizational absorptive capacity and structural organicity. absorptive capacity refers to the ability of a firm to recognize, identify, acquire, disseminate, transform and exploit externally generated valuable knowledge. organization structure is generally considered on a mechanistic to organic continuum and organicity refers to the degree of fit for organic structure. based on these conceptualizations, a survey was conducted on a sample of 79 small and medium-sized organizations (sme‟s) operating in city center of erzurum. it was found that sme‟s mostly have mechanistic structure. besides, potential and realized absorptive capacity observed to be independent. a weak negative relationship was found between organicity and the „trust and respect‟ dimension of potential absorptive capacity. organicity was also found to be negatively related to realized absorptive capacity. last, micro firms having 1-10 employees found to have lower realized absorptive capacity than others.
