Determination of Factors Affecting Willingness of the Veterinary Services of Farmers

This research was conducted to determine socio-economic factors affecting willingness of the veterinary services of farmers among dairy farms in biga, canakkale. the main material of this study was the data obtained by surveying 179 dairy farms selected by stratified sampling metot in the central villages of biga between october 2012-april 2013. the survey results of farmers showed that 2.2% of farmers didn’t make use of veterinary services, 72.1% of the farmers rarely make use of veterinary services while 13.4% and 12.3% of the farmers some times and always make use of veterinary services, respectively. ordered probit model was used to estimate the farmers’ willingness to make use of the veterinary services. this model estimation showed that the factors affecting willingness of the veterinary services of farmers were determined as the number of individuals in the household, numbers of hours devoted on the dairy farms, farmer’s age, farmer’s income and number of livestock on the farms. it was determined that there was a significant and positive relationship between these factors and willingness of the veterinary services of farmers (p<0.05). it was stated that there was a significant and negative relationship between farmer's dairy farm experience and willingness of the veterinary services of farmers (p<0.01). the results revealed that some socio-economic factors influence on the farmer’s make use of veterinary services.
