چکیده    In this study, great soil groups, erosion classes and land capability classes of tokat province were digitized and analyzed by using geographic information systems (gis). settlements, bare rocky areas and water surfaces like reservoirs or lakes were excluded from the evaluation. according to the spatial analysis results of resulting digital maps in gis, 10 great soil groups were recognized across the province. from small to large cover areas, these were determined as (1) hydromorphic, (2) reddish-brown, (3) gray-brown podsolic, (4) brown, (5) colluvial, (6) reddish-chestnut, (7) alluvial, (8) chestnut (maroon), (9) non-calcerous brown forest, (10) brown great soil groups. the study showed that there is no wind erosion in tokat province. however, 4 water erosion classes including (1) no or little erosion, (2) medium erosion, (3) severe erosion, and (4) very severe erosion classes were determined. finally, land capability classes of tokat province were determined between i and viii. across the province, no area was determined in v class. the largest areas (54.61 %) in the province were determined in vii class. in descending order, vi (% 13.02), iii (% 8.81), i (% 7.27), iv (% 6.97), ii (%5.90) and viii (% 0.73) land capability classes followed each other.
