Constructional and Environmental Characteristics of Sheep Barns in Tokat and Possible Improvements

Sheep breeding has a significant economical support for livestock industry of the country. animal performance and yield are mostly depending on housing conditions. therefore, research is needed to improve the structural and environmental conditions of sheep barns around the country. current conditions, structural characteristics, sufficiency and potential problems of sheep barns in tokat province were investigated and possible improvements and proper housing alternatives were provided in this study. a total of 79 sheep barns in 19 different villages of tokat were visited and relevant parameters were determined in each one them.it was observed that some barns were not able to provide proper indoor environmental conditions for sheep; required criteria were not taken in to consideration in design of some barns; mistakes were made in design and site selection of some others. considering the findings of such investigations, recommendations were made to improve the current conditions of the barns and proper designs were provided for the regional climate conditions.
