Technical and Economical Problems of Producers in Organic and Conventional Greenhouse Vegetable Production (The case of Sivas Province, Ulaş District)

This study is a result of a field study implemented through a survey among producers involved in organic greenhouse farming and conventional greenhouse farming in the villages within the ulas district of the sivas province. the aim of the research is to study the knowledge and know-how of the organic farming and conventional greenhouse farming producers, the source of their technical knowledge, the use of the technology. surveys have been carried out along march – may 2009 period at four different villages of ulas county of sivas province among 30 producers. the survey conducted regularly after 2006 shows that the theoretical and practical training provided by surkal under btc project has served its purpose and has been effective in reinforcing the technical knowledge of the producers. however, considerable issues are still in effect on the organic greenhouse farming and conventional greenhouse farming, and as a result a retarded spread is observed. besides, it is observed that the organic agriculture has been especially effective in changing the household food habits. the essential need is stated to be the establishment of a local cooperative on this area, where family workers labor free of charge. moreover, the producers face problems in finding seedling, organic drugs and seeds in the region.
