Leadership Style and Temperament-Character Relationship: An Application in the Police Organization

Leadership was investigated by various aspects in the field of management because of its important role in leading the organization to its goals. the relationship between personality and leadership aroused interest both among scholars and practitioners. this research aims to study the effect of personality traits on leadership styles by drawing a sample of 210 participants from police agency. turkish form of cloninger’s tci inventory which consists of temperament and character components and ogbanna ve harris’ leadership styles scale were used to collect data. parametric, nonparametric tests, correlation and regression analyses were used for data analysis purposes. the findings of the study revealed that there are a statistically significant relationship between personality and leadership. cooperativeness dimension of character and reward dependence and persistence dimensions of temperament explained together 17% of variance in supportive leadership. results were discussed in terms of contribution to the literature and future research.
