ناقص‌سازی جنسی زنان از منظر موازین حقوق بین الملل بشر

ناقص‌سازی جنسی زنان که آسیب جسمی قابل توجهی به آنان وارد می کند اغلب ریشه در فرهنگ و سنت مردمی دارد که به آن مبادرت می کنند. از منظر حقوق بین الملل بشر افراد محقّ هستند تا به باورهای فرهنگی خود بپردازند. اما، این اقدام به طور همزمان در مغایرت با برخی حق های بشری ازجمله حق بر سلامت، حق بر رهایی از تبعیض بر اساس جنسیت، حق بر تولیدمثل و حق بر رهایی از شکنجه، رفتار ظالمانه و غیرانسانی است. از این رو، در حقوق بین الملل ناقص‌سازی جنسی زنان به عنوان شکنجه و یا رفتار غیر انسانی قلمداد می شود که حق پناهندگی برای قربانیان آن به رسمیت شناخته شده است. همچنین، در اسناد بین المللی مرتبط دولت ها مکلف شده اند که با انجام اقداماتی ازجمله جرم انگاری، تخصیص منابع مالی و افزایش آگاهی و آموزش افراد تلاش مقتضی خود را برای کاهش ناقص‌سازی جنسی زنان انجام دهند.
