The course of pregnancies that occur after recurrent miscarriages

Purpose: to compare the pregnancy outcomes and the route of delivery in women who have had recurrent spontaneous abortions with primigravid and multigravid women without a history of spontaneous abortion. materials and methods: this study included 40 women with a history of recurrent spontaneous abortions and 107 women as the control group who gave birth at suleymaniye obstetrics and gynecology hospital between 2003 and 2007. the control group was divided into two subgroups: 57 primiravid women and 50 multigravid women. data were collected from hospital records retrospectively. results: pregnant women with previous recurrent miscarriages have significantly higher rates of threatened abortion than primigravid and multigravid women (p<0.001). the rate of cesarian section in the recurrent abortion group (47.8%) was found to be significantly higher than the other groups (p<0.05). the rate of having sexual intercourse during pregnancy in women with recurrent miscarriages was found to be significantly lower than the control group (p <0.001).there were no statistically significant differences among the three groups for threatened preterm delivery, prolonged pregnancy, abnormal placental insertion, gestational hypertension, glucose intolerance and gestational diabetes and urinary tract disorders (p>0.05). conclusion: in conclusion we found that pregnancies after recurrent pregnancy losses were not related with adverse perinatal outcomes although they had high cesarean rates.
