Acute fatty liver of pregnancy with late postpartum bleeding

Acute fatty liver of pregnancy (aflp) is a rare but an important complication of the third trimester that may be fatal if not diagnosed and treated early. aflp can lead to severe hepatic damage with liver failure, disseminated intravascular coagulation (dic), hepatic encephalopathy, postpartum hemorrhage, multiple organ failure and death. since maternal and neonatal mortality reduction can be achieved with the early diagnosis and treatment, obstetrician & gynecologists should be aware of and careful about the aflp. it should be kept in mind that cases may face up to risks such as postpartum hemorrhage. in this article, we aimed to present a case with 36 weeks of twin pregnancy with aflp who developed dic and massive intra-abdominal bleeding in the second day of postpartum period and to discuss the case under the light of literature.
