The Investigation of Students Perception about their Profession by Metaphonic Analysis

In this study, it is aimed to study the guidance and counseling department students’ perceptions of their profession via metaphor. in the research, one of the case study patterns, an embedded single-case design was used. the participants in this study included 272 students from guidance and counseling department in the ataturk university, turkey. data were collected by open ended survey method. participants were asked to complete the sentence of “graduate from the department of guidance and counseling is like..., because…”. data were analysed by using content analysis method. within this framework, the metaphors developed by university students of the department of guidance and counseling were analysed and commented in five steps: (1) naming metaphors (2) classification of metaphors (3) developing categories (4) conducting validity and reliability and (5) transferring datas on computer system. according to the results, overall, participants produced 89 valid metaphors about their professions. regarding to these metaphorical images, 12 conceptual categories were identified.
