A discussion on the dwell time values at bus stops

Urban bus transportation is the most frequently used public transportation mode in turkey. the reliability of urban bus system is mostly related with the regularity of travel times and the service provided to passengers at bus stops. the increasing demand of bus transit which can be provided by high reliability, can be the one of the most efficient method for preventing traffic jams by decreasing private car use. in this study, passenger getting on and off times are predicted by using site observations and smart card data used at the public transportation systems in izmir. as a result of the analysis, the service times are found as 4.23 seconds for getting on and 1.0 seconds for getting off. besides, it is concluded that the differences between the getting on and off passenger numbers at stop increase the dwell time in a parabolic function form.
