چکیده
|
Based on “je ne parle pas français”, an important short story by popular feminist writer, katherine mansfield, this study focuses on the reflection of men’s and women’s lives in a patriarchal society from a rather prejudiced man’s point of view. thus, the gender issue in real life will be analysed through the protagonist, raoul duquette’s diminitive and cruel attitudes towards women in general and to mouse, the female character in the story and through his ambiguous relationship with dick harmon, the other male character in the story. dissecting the story by a feminist approach, the study mainly consists of three parts. in the first part, raoul duquette, the protagonist and the narrator of the story shall be examined in detail from various angles such as his childhood, character, bisexuality and prejudices whilst in the second part, dick harmon’s personality is to be analysed as a man, writer and someone experiencing the oedipus syndrome. finally, the female character, mouse’s state in the society as a woman and raoul and dick’s destructive effect on her life shall be emphasised in the third part.
