The Effect of Forward Speed of Rotary tiller on Soil Carbon Dioxide Emission

In this study, soil co2 emission was determined after the tillage using by rotary tiller. data was periodically recorded after the tillage operation for 25 days. for this purpose, three forward speeds of rotary tiller as 0.5 (h1), 1.0 (h2) and 1.5 (h3) m s^-1 were used in the trial. the soil co2 emission was recorded by using portable soil co2 emission device. soil carbon dioxide emissions, soil temperature, evaporation and soil moisture are determined simultaneously. depending on the rotary tiller forward speeds, distribution of soil aggregate size was determined. additionally, soil bulk density and porosity were determined according to three soil depths.based on the results; rotary tiller forward speed has been found to be effective on the soil co2 emissions. soil co2 emission of the h1 treatment was higher than h2 and h3 treatments (p<0.05). average soil co2 emission for h1, h2 and h3 treatments were 0.21, 0.15 and 0.15 g m-2 h^-1, respectively. difference among the soil temperature are not significant. soil evaporation for h1, h2, and h3 treatments were 3.8, 3.8 and 4.6 g m^-2h^-1, respectively. evaporation of h3 treatment was higher than h1 and h3 treatments (p<0.05). soil moisture for h1, h2 and h3 treatments were 18.7%, 19.2%, and 19.1%, respectively. according to average soil moisture, h1 treatment was lower than h2 and h3 treatment (p<0.05). according to sieve analysis, increasing of forward speeds of rotary tiller has increased the soil particle size. mean weight diameter for h1, h2, and h3 was found as 0.159, 0.216, and 0.303 mm.difference between the mean weight diameter was important (p<0.05). consequently, with the increase of forward speed of rotary tiller has increased the soil particle size. increase in the soil particle size led to decrease the soil carbon dioxide emission.
