Determination of the Effect of Farm and Green Manure Utilization on Yield and Quality in Green and Dry Cowpea

This study was performed in 2011 in order to determine the effect of organic fertilizer (farmyard manure and green manure) and conventional applications on cowpea production. the study was conducted in the experimental areas of süleyman demirel university agricultural faculty agricultural research and experimental station. in the study karnıkara cowpea cultivar was used as a plant material and parameters including total yield, pod length (cm), pod width (mm) and pod protein ratio in green cowpea were investigated. in dry cowpea; total yield, seed yield per plant, seed number per pod and seed protein ratio were determined. at the end of the study, in green cowpea, variations were observed in the average of total yield (606.8 kg/da in control application and 709.3 kg/da in conventional application), pod length (12.0 cm in control application and 15.6 cm in conventional application) and pod width (6.8 mm in control application and 8.3 mm in conventional application) and pod protein ratio (%17.4 in control, green manure and conventional application and % 17.6 in farmyard manure). in dry cowpea, the effects of applications (control, green manure, farm yard manure and conventional) on total seed yield, seed yield per plant and seed number per pod were significant. in the light of the results obtained green manure can be used as an alternative to farm manure in organic cowpea cultivation.
